Karen Noble-Newman on an outing with Friendship Group 2010-2011

I am a licensed mental health counselor and have worked with children and families in different capacities for 27 years.

I have worked as a

  • Head Start Case Manager
  • DSHS Caseworker with children in foster care
  • Family Counselor at a school for homeless children
  • Pediatric Specialist on Seattle Children's inpatient psychiatric unit
  • Mental Health Therapist in community mental health clinics
  • Full Time Stay at Home Mom for 7 years with 3 young daughters (my most challenging and rewarding position)
Currently I have a private practice, East Lake Union Counselors, near Lake Union in Seattle.

In my practice, I offer individual therapy to adolescents and adults especially women dealing with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and childhood trauma. I especially enjoy working with young women and helping them navigate the transitions and meet the demands of adulthood.

I offer consultation, guidance, and practical advice to parents who are struggling with issues related to effective child rearing and healthy parenting.

As an adjunct to my private practice, I teach social skills classes, Friendship Group, with my colleague Lisa Ann Mikulencak. I love working with groups of kids and helping them gain skills, confidence, and comfort with themselves and others.

On a personal note, I grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia and graduated with a B.S. in Special Education from the University of Virginia in 1977. I obtained my Master's in Psychology from Antioch University in Seattle in 2001.

I love my job and tremendously enjoy the spirit and energy of children and teenagers. I love working with adults of any age who are interested in living their best lives and finding the courage to push through life's hard moments. I believe in the resiliency of the human spirit and in one's capacity to grow and heal.

When not working, I garden, knit, cook, travel, and create and admire beauty. My sense of humor and my lovely family have helped sustain me through life's ups and downs.
